US judge rules Google’s online search illegal monopoly

Google lost its four-year antitrust case against the US Department of Justice (DoJ) after federal judge Amit Mehta ruled the company had built an illegal monopoly over the online search and advertising industry.

The company was sued by DoJ in 2020 over its control of around 90 per cent of the online search market. Remedies which could go as far as breaking up the company will be decided at a future hearing. The company intends to appeal the ruling.
