In a short joint statement released on 15 April 2026 by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen, the regional bloc announced the upcoming of its age verification app.
According to the statement, the app will increase protection for minors online.
“Our European age verification app is technically ready and soon available for citizens to use. This app will allow users to prove their age when accessing online platforms.” the statement reads.
